The Smart Car is part of DaimlerChrysler, the world's 5th largest automotive group. Smart is a subsidiary of Chrysler AG; it is the youngest automotive manufacturer in the world and produces the smallest production vehicle to date.

The new Smart Fortwo has arrived and it has arrived in a big way.

The Smart Fortwo is improved in every way.

The all new Smart Fortwo can do everything that its precursor could but now it does it even better and for less money.  The new version of DaimlerChrysler's Fortwo Smart car will cost less to build than its predecessor and this savings will be past on to the consumers.

Material costs for the new ForTwo, which rolls out in early 2008, are 12 percent lower than the original model introduced in 1998. The new car also takes a fifth less time to build, at a plant in France, officials said at the model's unveiling.

The new Smart Fortwo looks almost identical to past models.

The Smart constantly offered plenty of driving pleasure and the new Smart Fortwo will offer more!

DaimlerChrysler's new version of the Smart Fortwo will cost less to make than its forerunner. Material costs alone are 12 percent lower than the original model introduced in 1998.

The production process has been optimized and the production time reduced from 9.5 hours to just 8 hours. The entire final assembly, which took 4.5 hours for the predecessor, now takes only 3.5 hours.

Smart Car of America believes due to this, reduced operating cost, streamlining fixed expenditures, we anticipated the Smart will sell for less than $15,000 when available in the U.S.

And it seems like some people agree with us.

Roger Penske, CEO of United Auto Group Inc., which will distribute the cars said in an interview in Stuttgart, Germany, where DaimlerChrysler presented the new version of the Smart, "No incentives will be offered on the car, which will start at about $11,000.00.

He also gave a sales forecast saying "they plan on selling as many as 44,000 of the Smart each year" when the vehicle goes on sale in the United States in 2008. DaimlerChrysler has sold over 750,000 Smart ForTwo cars.

Granted overall Smart brand sales fell 20.6 percent in the first 10 months of 2006 to 96,200 units. However, if what we are told is true Mr. Penske and his United Auto Group can, in time sell 40,000 plus cars a year and if they sell near the figure he quoted, United Auto Group will not need any incentive plans, or subterfuge, only sharp pencils and a suitable inventories.

We hope for the sake of our 12,000 opt-in members and our countless readers that this will be the case.
